My name is Michael Broadhead and since 2005 I’ve have the privilege of teaching at international and private schools in the UK, Taiwan, China, Singapore and Canada. During that time I primarily taught sciences. I am a BC registered teacher and have now settled in beautiful Victoria and undergone training to tutor dyslexic students using the Orton Gillingham approach. I enjoy working one on one with students of all ages and take care to provide personalized multi-sensory instruction that builds confidence and matches the student’s needs. For more information, you can email me at [email protected] or call me at 778 676 8227.
Specializations
Orton-GillinghamThe Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is a structured, multisensory method for teaching reading and writing to individuals with dyslexia. It breaks down language into smaller units (sounds and letters), explicitly teaching the connections between them. OG is systematic, sequential, and tailored to each student’s needs, building a strong foundation in literacy through engaging multiple senses (seeing, hearing, touching, moving).
“I highly recommend Mike for Orton-Gillingham tutoring. His solid understanding of OG methodology and how it benefits students with dyslexia and other reading challenges gives us reassurance our child will continue to progress. Thanks to Mike’s guidance, my child has made tremendous gains in decoding, spelling, and overall reading confidence and best of all looks forward to their tutoring sessions.” – Natalie parent to 7 year old
Interested in getting Orton Gillingham tutoring? It’s best if your child is in K-3 and:
- has dyslexia (or strong suspicion).
- is reading far below grade level.
- has a positive learning attitude.
Current rate is $90 per session.
If all of that sounds good to you and you want to learn more, reach out to Mike via email or call 778-676-8227.
“Michael Broadhead has been a transformative tutor for our son, who has dyslexia and ADHD. He’s kind, patient, and took the time to build a genuine, supportive relationship with our son. Using the Orton-Gillingham approach and personalized lessons, he’s helped our son make incredible progress in reading and gain real confidence. We’re so grateful for the lasting impact Michael has had on his learning journey.” – Mayanna, parent to 9 year old.
“It has been a pleasure to observe you and Max working together, and the benefits to Max of having these OG sessions are so great. When I see two people working together so successfully, I always hope that it will be possible to continue this partnership.” – OG Supervising Mentor

“The last 3 years of high school have honestly been brilliant. Grade 10 science and DP Chemistry have consistently been
among my favourite classes. Especially in DP, I (and many others) looked at you not only as a teacher but a mentor to make the rigour of IB bearable. I’m not really what it
was, but there was something intangible about you and your class that made every student look forward to your class.” – R.P.
